Setting Up Dialup Networking on Windows 95/98/ME

These instructions assume Dialup Networking 1.3 has been installed in your computer. If this is not the case, you won't have a Dial-Up Networking Folder in step 2. You will need to install Dial-Up Networking from your Windows installation CD or from the Microsoft web site.

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.

  2. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.

  3. Double-click the Make New Connection icon.

  4. Delete the contents of the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, and type a name for the connection (i.e. JTAN LineX).
  5. Click the Next button.

  6. In the Area code field, type the area code for your access number.
  7. In the Telephone number field, type your access number. An access number can be found on our Access Number Search page.

Note: Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call.

  8. Click the Next button.

  9. Click the Finish button.

  10. Click the JTAN LineX icon. Note: (or whatever you named the icon earlier)

  11. From the File menu, choose Properties.

  12. Click on the Server Types tab.
  13. Uncheck all the boxes except for Enable software compression and TCP/IP.
  14. Click the OK button.

  15. Click the JTAN LineX icon. Note: (or whatever you named it earlier)

  16. From the File menu, choose Create Shortcut.

  17. Click the Yes button.

Congratulations! You have successfully configured Dial-Up Networking! In order to connect, you would now double-click the JTAN LineX shortcut you created on your desktop.
